Auckland Council considers voting booths for 2028 elections, at three times the cost of postal
Auckland Council is looking at letting people vote at booths — like in a general election — for its 2028 local elections. Turnout in 2025 was just 29 percent, the lowest since the super-city began in 2010. A report said booths would cost $39–55 million, compared with $15.5 million for voting by post. Staff warned that switching methods alone wouldn't fix low turnout.
