FBI Reportedly Told to Stop Investigating ICE Agent Confrontations

The New York Times reported July 19, 2026 that the FBI was told to stop investigating incidents involving ICE agents. The cases would instead go to a unit that is part of ICE itself. DHS and DOJ denied the report. That unit cannot investigate civil rights violations, leaving no clear replacement. Two civilians were killed by ICE agents in the preceding two weeks.
