Marathon Runners Wear Life Vests at the North Pole on Floating Ice

On July 19, twenty-three runners from seven countries finished the 2026 North Pole Marathon. They ran laps on a 1,055-metre track cut into floating ice above Arctic waters over 12,000 feet deep. Rules required life vests and warm gear, because runners were on a moving surface with no solid ground below.
