China Makes Banks Hold More Dollars Back
China will raise the share of dollar deposits its banks must hold back to 6%, starting November 15, 2026, Reuters reported November 3. That leaves banks fewer dollars to lend or sell, like money locked in a drawer. The yuan, China's currency, has gained more than 5% against the dollar in 2026, its strongest level since 2022.
