OpenAI Says Its AI Model Disproved a Long-Standing Computer Science Guess

OpenAI said on October 26, 2026 that its AI model produced a claimed disproof of the Exponential Time Hypothesis, a long-standing guess that some puzzles get explosively harder as they grow. OpenAI's website calls it false. OpenAI has asked Impagliazzo, Paturi and Ryan Williams to help interpret the solution. Anthropic has since released its own rebuttal. Independent review is pending.
