Education Ministry rates Year 8 literacy and maths target "at risk"

The Education Ministry's annual report rates its goal of 80% of Year 8 students at the expected curriculum level in reading, writing and maths by December 2030 as "at risk". As at 30 June 2026, 45% of Year 8 students were at expected reading levels, 28% at expected writing levels and 24% at expected maths levels.
