Cambridge-based Barocal has developed a new cooling system for data centers using plastic crystals and pressure instead of harmful refrigerant gases. Data centers are the first target market—operators need to reduce energy costs and have the expertise to adopt new technology. The approach uses about two-thirds less energy than traditional cooling methods.
