Parti Québécois wins Quebec election, will need help to govern

Paul St-Pierre Plamondon led the Parti Québécois to win Quebec's Oct. 5, 2026 election with 59 seats — enough to govern, but needing help from others to pass laws. The party got 28% of all votes cast, the lowest ever for a winner. The Quebec Liberals got 40 seats. Plamondon, local representative for Camille-Laurin, spoke to supporters in Montreal.
