
S&P 500 Tops 7,800 as Chipmakers Rally
The S&P 500, the broad gauge of large U.S. stocks, closed above 7,800 for the first time on Oct. 6, up 0.58%. The tech-heavy Nasdaq rose 0.45% to a record close. The Dow, tracking 30 blue-chip firms, added 0.49%, ending just short of its August record. Gains were tied to AI chipmakers Marvell, AMD and Broadcom.
