Carney offers businesses $36 billion off taxes for buying new equipment

Prime Minister Mark Carney told a Toronto investment summit companies could subtract the full price of new purchases from taxes at once, like an instant rebate. The productivity mega deduction covers about two-thirds of big business buys. Ottawa says it will cost $36 billion over five years starting in 2026-27. Some buildings and natural gas pipelines are left out.
