Carney announces $36-billion tax writeoff for new business investment

Prime Minister Mark Carney told a Toronto investment summit companies could deduct the full cost of new investments right away — the productivity mega deduction covering about two-thirds of capital assets, or major business purchases. Ottawa puts the cost at $36 billion over five years starting in 2026-27. Some buildings and natural gas pipelines do not qualify.
