
Carney announces $36-billion immediate writeoff for business investment
Prime Minister Mark Carney announced at a Toronto investment summit a "productivity mega deduction" allowing companies to immediately write off new investments covering about two-thirds of capital assets. Ottawa estimates a $36-billion cost over five years starting in 2026-27. Certain buildings and natural gas pipelines are excluded.
