
Conservatives say they would build 50,000 more prison spaces
Conservatives would add 50,000 prison beds in England and Wales if they return to power, leader Kemi Badenoch said. The party said most would be ready within five years, costing £2bn a year. The idea, it said, is to stop letting prisoners out early and keep serious offenders locked up. Jails are 98% full, with about 89,000 usable beds.
