Diesel costs almost £2 a litre, a record

The RAC said diesel averaged 199.18p a litre across the UK on 28 September 2026, the most ever. The RAC said fighting in the Middle East was pushing up fuel prices. The BBC said standard petrol was about £1.74 a litre. If diesel stays near £2, lorry firms and families will feel the squeeze.
