Germany and Russia's Top Diplomats Meet for First Time in Years

Germany's top diplomat Johann Wadephul met Russia's Sergey Lavrov in New York during the yearly UN meeting of countries, in informal talks outside the main event. It was their countries' first such meeting since 2022. Wadephul said they still deeply disagree over Ukraine. Lavrov later defended Russia's war in his UN speech.
