Germany and Russia Hold First Foreign Ministers' Talks Since 2022

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul met Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, the first talks between the two countries' top diplomats since 2022. Wadephul said the meeting illustrated deep divisions over the war in Ukraine. Lavrov later defended Russia's war in his General Assembly address.
