Falling Glacier Ice Causes Deadly Flood Near Nepal and Tibet

At least 1,453 people died on August 26, 2026, when ice breaking off a glacier unleashed mud, rock and water across northern Nepal and the China-Tibet border. Nepal's disaster authority says 5,500 are still missing and 13,795 were rescued. Prime Minister Balendra Shah told the UN General Assembly on September 24 it was 'a warning to the world.'
