Canada puts new taxes on U.S. goods starting Sept. 8

Starting Sept. 8, 2026, Canada will add extra import taxes of 15 to 50 per cent on over 700 American products — like dairy, steel and makeup — totalling C$27.6 billion. This responds to Trump's 50 per cent taxes on $28 billion worth of Canadian goods. Ottawa is also helping affected businesses and workers.
