Canada's retaliatory tariffs on US$20 billion in U.S. goods take effect Sept. 8

Canada imposes counter-tariffs of 15, 25 and 50 per cent on over 700 U.S. products — dairy, steel, copper, beauty goods — covering C$27.6 billion in imports, effective Sept. 8, 2026. The move responds to Trump's 50 per cent tariffs on $28 billion in Canadian goods, from hockey sticks to honey. Ottawa also rolled out support measures for affected businesses and workers.
