Tesla Starts Charging for Driverless Taxi Rides in Texas

Tesla now charges passengers for rides in its Cybercab — a two-seat car with no steering wheel or pedals that drives itself — across Austin, Houston, and Dallas, starting September 3, 2026. The cars are being built at Tesla's Texas factory. This is Tesla's first income from driverless taxis, though whether each ride is profitable is unknown.
