Repeated Fighting in Baidoa Reveals Somalia's Power Struggle

Somali government troops pushed back a militia attack on the city of Baidoa on September 3 — the fourth this year. The militias back a governor ousted by federal forces in March. They cannot seize Baidoa but keep causing unrest. The Defence Ministry claimed the attackers worked with al-Shabaab, an armed group, but offered no evidence. No solution to the conflict is in sight.
