Top science prize for study challenging doubts about abuse survivors' memory

Psychologist Helen Paterson won the 2026 Eureka Prize for showing that domestic violence survivors — who witness the same harm again and again — are often wrongly judged as less believable than one-time witnesses. Her research found that mixing up details of repeated events is a normal feature of memory, not a sign of lying.
