South Korean Court Sends Church Leader to Prison for Corruption Tied to Former Government
A South Korean court sentenced Han Hak-ja, 83, head of the Unification Church, to two years in prison. She was convicted of giving expensive gifts to the former first lady and secretly passing money to a politician loyal to ousted President Yoon. The prosecution wanted 13 years. Han can appeal. It is unusual for a top religious leader to get prison time on a first trial verdict.
