Conservatives face tight by-election test in Chicoutimi–Le Fjord

Voters in Chicoutimi–Le Fjord started casting ballots August 31 to replace Conservative MP Richard Martel, who left for the Senate. Martel won the 2025 election by only about 1,500 votes. McGill professor Daniel Béland says if the Conservatives lose, it will deepen talk that leader Pierre Poilievre is in trouble.
