Melting Glacier Bursts in Nepal, Killing Hundreds

On August 26, a wall of ice broke off a glacier in the Himalayas near Nepal's border with Tibet. The rushing water and mud swept down two rivers, the Trishuli and Bhotekoshi. By August 30, at least 734 people from over 30 countries had died and more than 3,000 remained missing. Rescuers struggled for four days as debris had dammed the river upstream.
