Iceland Votes Against Rejoining EU Talks, Stays in Its Unique Position

Icelanders voted 52.5% to 47.5% against restarting talks to join the European Union, RUV reported. The result keeps Iceland's special deal: it can trade freely with EU countries without being a full member, while keeping control of its fishing and its own currency. Those were the key reasons voters said no. The vote was about reopening talks, not joining outright.
