After Deadly Nepal-Tibet Floods, Families Search for Missing Loved Ones on Their Own

Flash floods — sudden, fast-rising floods — killed 691 across Nepal and Tibet, with over 3,000 still missing. Victims came from more than 30 countries, but no single authority is keeping a full list of who is missing. Official government alerts to foreign embassies have been too slow. Families of 41 missing Australians, among others, are paying for and running their own searches.
