Two wildfires are burning 25–30 miles apart in Big Sur. The Plaskett fire doubled overnight to 5,924 acres with no control as of August 29, prompting evacuations. The Timber fire has burned 24,601 acres and is only 21% contained — meaning crews have it partially under control — after it broke past fire lines. Smoke blocked overnight mapping.
