Europe's Gas Reserves at 13-Year Low Before Winter
Europe's gas reserves ended August 2026 at 63% full — the lowest for this time of year since 2013, per Gas Infrastructure Europe. The shortfall, about 17 points below normal, stems from disrupted Gulf gas exports tied to the US-Israel war on Iran, a cold winter finish, and heatwaves driving up gas use. Analyst Greg Molnar expects reserves to enter winter a fifth below average.
