New Fed Chair Stops Telling Markets Where Interest Rates Are Headed

Fed Chair Kevin Warsh said the central bank will no longer hint at where interest rates are going, telling a Jackson Hole audience on August 28 the practice had "overstayed its welcome." Markets must now react to each meeting based on new economic data. Inflation was 3.4% in July, and three Fed officials wanted to raise rates.
