Melting Glacier Bursts, Causing Deadly Floods Between Nepal and Tibet

On 26 August 2026, a huge sheet of ice broke off a mountain in Nepal's Langtang National Park, releasing a wall of water that flooded the Nepal-Tibet border. 543 people are dead and over 1,500 are missing, including foreign hikers and pilgrims. The Red Cross says 93,000 people are affected, roads and bridges are wiped out, and the death toll will likely climb.
