Waymo says self-driving cars need more than cameras, pointing to 200 million miles of data

Waymo, which runs driverless taxis, said August 26 that cameras alone cannot safely guide fully self-driving cars, drawing on over 200 million miles of real-world data. The claim targets Tesla, which relies on cameras only for its planned Cybercab. New Jersey is considering a law requiring self-driving taxis to use multiple sensor types. Tesla insists cameras are enough.
