Melting glacier gives back a climber's lost backpack after 63 years

A hiker on a melting Austrian glacier found an 86-year-old mountaineer's backpack, ice axe, camera, and pipe in July 2026. He had dropped them during a 1963 rescue in a deep ice crack to weigh less. Police traced him through old papers inside. Too ill to go, he got them back through his son. Melting Alpine glaciers are revealing more lost objects.
