Fewer young Britons out of work and school — but more than last year

About 981,000 UK 16–24-year-olds were neither in school, working, nor training in April–June 2026, the Office for National Statistics says. That's down 30,000 from the previous three months — the first dip below one million in 2026. But it's 30,000 more than a year ago, mostly among young men. At 13%, the rate is among Europe's highest.
