Mountain Avalanche Causes Deadly Floods on Nepal-Tibet Border; 157 Dead, 1,500 Missing

On 26 August 2026, a wall of ice and rock crashed down mountains on the Nepal-Tibet border, pushing a sudden flood of water through riverside towns. At least 157 people died. Nearly 1,500 are still missing, including around 800 visitors drawn to the area for hiking and religious trips.
