Major wild swimming study questions WHO's removal of key water safety test

The largest-ever study on wild swimming health risks, with 2,368 participants in Hungary, found that a common bacteria called E. coli was the clearest cause of stomach illness in swimmers. Another bacteria, enterococci, showed no such link. This raises questions about the WHO's decision to stop recommending E. coli testing in freshwater — possibly removing the most useful warning sign.
