Amazon to Close Mechanical Turk as AI Takes Over Its Human-Powered Tasks

Amazon will shut down Mechanical Turk on September 30, 2026, ending a service launched in 2005 that paid humans to do small online tasks. Jeff Bezos once called it "artificial AI." Now, AI language models can do much of that work — sorting text, checking content, rating tone — without human help.
