Nearly 170,000 NZ children now living without basics

StatsNZ says 47,500 more children fell into hardship since 2022 — meaning their families can't afford everyday needs like food or warm clothes. The total is now nearly 170,000, or one in seven. The government aimed to get this down to six percent by 2028. CPAG's Lyn Amos said New Zealand was "absolutely going backwards."
