Luxon promises no new taxes, scraps Auckland hotel charge from city deal

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has promised "no new taxes" if re-elected, dropping a planned charge on Auckland hotel stays. The 2.5 percent fee on overnight visitors was part of a signed deal between the Government and Auckland. Luxon backed away just two weeks after saying it was possible. Auckland Minister Simon Watts told RNZ the deal would be rewritten and other options looked at.
