
Federal Government to Set National Rules for Large Datacentres After Tasmania Approves Big Facility
On 26 August, PM Albanese said the federal government will create national rules on energy, water, and land use for large datacentres — the warehouse-sized buildings that store and process digital information — starting early next year. This came one day after a Tasmanian council approved a 288-megawatt AI datacentre, saying concerns about energy and AI were beyond its planning role.
