Dow Soars 600 Points as Pressure on Markets Eases
On August 26, 2026, the Dow jumped about 600 points, and the S&P 500 and Nasdaq rose too. Three things that had been squeezing markets all eased at once: oil got cheaper, government bond rates (what the U.S. pays to borrow) fell, and a slide in bond prices calmed down. Earlier this year, cheaper oil alone hadn't been enough to lift stocks. Chipmakers led the gains ahead of Nvidia's earnings report, which has driven big market swings all year.
