Book claims Conservative leader tried to replace Prime Minister while working for him

A new book says Kemi Badenoch called government ministers in 2023 to ask if they wanted to replace then-Prime Minister Rishi Sunak — while she served in his own team. Badenoch now leads the Conservative Party from outside government. The book, serialised in The Independent, comes out 27 August 2026.
