An Asylum Seeker Was Sent to Panama Without a Court Hearing

Artemis Ghasemzadeh, 27, fled Iran as a Christian convert and asked the U.S. for protection. Instead, officials sent her to Panama without letting a judge hear her case first. Under agreements between governments, asylum seekers can be moved to other countries, skipping the usual court process. Panama gave her a six-month visa. A lawmaker proposed the "Artemis Act" to close this gap.
