Peters and Luxon at odds over hotel charge for visitors

Winston Peters says a charge on visitor accommodation in Auckland and Queenstown is still government policy, contradicting the Prime Minister's promise of no new taxes. Peters told RNZ "a deal is a deal," pointing to a signed coalition agreement that allows the charge in 2027. Luxon ruled it out on 23 August 2026 during National's re-election campaign.
