Bitcoin Nears $80,000 Again — But This Time, the Government Is Helping

Bitcoin is up about 27% in a month and nearing $80,000, a price it has approached at least seven times since November 2024. This time is different: on August 19, the Treasury said it will buy back up to $69 billion of its own debt, including at least $4 billion in long-term bonds. That pushes long-term interest rates down, which tends to lift assets like Bitcoin. Buying starts September 9, so markets are betting on demand that has not happened yet.
