French rights official says police used weapons unfairly on migrants heading to England

France's top rights watchdog says police used weapons to stop migrants from launching small boats across the Channel to England. The patrols are funded by a £660m UK-France deal that sends riot-trained officers to French beaches. Aid group Utopia 56 counted more than three people hurt by police each day in Calais and Dunkirk from March to September 2025.
