Former Deputy Who Killed Sonya Massey Dies in Prison at 32

Sean Grayson, a former Illinois sheriff's deputy convicted of murder for shooting Sonya Massey in 2024, died in prison on August 23, 2026. He was 32, just six months into a 20-year sentence. Grayson had advanced colon cancer; a state board had denied his request for early medical release in July. Massey's family lawyers said his death does not bring Sonya back.
