U.S. Threatens Big New Taxes on Canadian Steel and Aluminum

Trade talks between the U.S. and Canada have stalled. The Wall Street Journal reported August 23, 2026 that the U.S. threatened a 50% tax on Canadian steel and aluminum entering the country. No new negotiations are planned. That tax would far exceed earlier rates and could prompt Canada to strike back with its own penalties on American goods.
