UK Shoppers Spent Less in July After World Cup Splurge

British shoppers bought 0.5% less in July, the ONS reported on 21 August. Clothing sales fell hardest. Reuters said people had spent extra during June's World Cup and then cut back. Despite July's drop, sales grew over three months thanks to stronger May and June numbers of 1.3% and 0.7%.
