US Sent Mexicans to Guatemala Instead of Mexico

In 2026, the US sent about 2,300 Mexican citizens to Guatemala — not Mexico — as part of President Trump's expanded deportations. Mexico objected, saying its citizens should be sent home directly. Guatemala sends them back within a day. The US calls this a way to discourage future crossings. Some Mexicans were also sent to Honduras.
